Build a funnel

Pick the steps in order, give a step more than one way, name it, and set the conversion window.

  1. Open Funnels in the sidebar and press New funnel.
  2. Give it a Name, such as Trial to paid.
  3. Under Steps, in order, add at least two steps. The first step is where the funnel starts counting.
  4. Set the Conversion window (days).
  5. Press Save funnel.

You can build a funnel from the step names your backend already sends, or type names it will send later: the funnel starts counting as soon as they arrive.

Steps

A funnel has 2 to 8 steps. Order them the way people go through them: signed_up, then created_project, then invited_teammate, then paid.

A person counts at a step only if they reached every step before it, in order. Someone who paid without ever creating a project doesn't count at Paid in this funnel.

More than one way to a step

Often a step can be reached several ways. "Set up a tree" might mean starting from a template, starting blank, or importing one. Rather than pick one, give the step every way:

  1. Press + or… on the step.
  2. Add the other event. The form says Adding another way of reaching step 2.
  3. Press Add as alternative.

A step can have up to 6 ways, and a person reaches it with whichever they did first. Each event can be in only one step of a funnel.

Name a step

A step with several ways reads better with a name of its own. Type one in Name this step, up to 60 characters, such as Set up a tree. Without a name, a step is shown by its event: created_project reads as Created project.

The conversion window

A later step counts only when it is reached within this many days of the first step, from 1 to 90. The funnel's card says it under its name: 4 steps · counted when reached within 30 days of the first.

Pick the time a person reasonably needs to go all the way through. Too short, and people who take their time look like drop-offs. Too long, and recent weeks wait a long time before they are complete: see Step trends.

Limits

A workspace has up to 10 funnels. Deleting a funnel keeps the steps it counted, so you can build another one from them.
