Add your customer list, use its columns as segments, or share an open link instead.

The People step says who gets the survey: a list you email, an open link you share yourself, or both.

Email it to a list

Under Email it to a list, paste your list into the box straight from a spreadsheet, or press Upload a CSV. If your list is in Excel, save it as CSV first.

Then say what each column is, under Columns:

Email address: one column must hold the addresses.
Name: fills in the greeting, “Hi Sara,”.
Segment: anything else about the person, such as their plan, industry or role.
Leave out: a column you don’t want in the survey.

Segments are what you split the answers by in the results, and what a question’s rule can look at. Add the columns you will want to compare. Then press Add N people.

A survey can go to up to 250 people.

What is left out, and why

After you add a list, Outcomify says what happened to each row:

duplicates: the same address twice, so the first is kept;
addresses that can’t work;
skipped: people who asked you for no more surveys;
over the limit: rows past the 250 a survey can go to;
already on the list: their row is refreshed with what your new list says about them.

Addresses and names in your list are stored encrypted. Your team sees names and segments, never a full address. Take off the list removes one person; Remove everyone clears it.

Share a link

Under Share a link, press Turn on the link to get one address anybody can answer at. Share it in a newsletter, your product or your help centre, or use Put it on your own page to embed the survey on a page of yours.

A link takes up to 500 people per survey.
It starts taking answers once the survey is out.
Once the survey is out, an owner or admin can change the link on its results page: Turn off stops anyone new from starting, and people already answering can finish; Make a new link replaces it, so a link that ended up somewhere it shouldn’t stops working.

People who come by the link aren’t on your list, so a question with a rule on a list column never reaches them. They are counted apart in the results: Came by the link on the summary, and Through the link under Responses.

A survey with the link on and nobody on the list isn’t emailed at all: on the Review step an owner or admin presses Open the survey instead of sending it.
